Just Updating ..... Nicholas Sparks
Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident two years ago. As deputy sheriff of New Bern, North Carolina, he not only grieves for her and worries about their young son Jonah but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice. Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews, Jonah's second-grade teacher. A young woman recovering from a difficult divorce, Sarah moved to New Bern hoping to start over. Tentatively, Sarah and Miles reach out to each other...soon they are falling in love. But what neither realizes is that they are also bound together by a shocking secret, one that will force them to reexamine everything they believe in--including their love.
In A Bend in the Road, Nicholas Sparks writes with a luminous intensity about life's bitter turns and incomparable sweetness. His affirming message carries a powerful lesson about the imperfections of being human, the mistakes we all make, and the joy that comes when we give ourselves to love.
This was the first book that i've read from Sparks and I read it due to curiosity.
I pick it up from the library and truly I'm not disapointed.
Eventhough I don't usually read this kind of ficton I was surprised with myself to be following every line of the story and feeling sympathetic towards the main caracters. The plot and the twist of the story was well written and at some point, I trully felt the loss of a wife and how it is hard to be alone with a small child to raise.
Sometimes fate does have it's tricks and it is up to us to take the correct direction towards our lives and move on.

Blood Bound (Unbound #1) Rachel Vincent
Finally got the opportunity to start reading Ms. Rachel Vincent, the truth is I forced myself to make the time, so now that I've started it I won't put it down.
I'll leave the blurb of the story and come back with updates.
As a bloodtracker, Liv is extremely powerful. And in a world where power is a commodity that can get you killed, Liv's learnt to survive by her own rules.
Rule number one? Trust no one.
But when a friend's daughter goes missing, Liv is bound by a potent magical oath. She can't rest until the child is safe.
And that means trusting her dangerous ex, Cam.
A sinister prophecy tells that she and Cam will be the death of each other, yet Liv's tired of being a slave to destiny. She's ready to play the forces controlling her world at their own game.
No matter what the cost.

The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn, including Jane Marple, are agog with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette which reads: 'A murder is announced and will take place on Friday October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30 p.m
A childish practical joke? Or a hoax intended to scare poor Letitia Blacklock?
Unable to resist the mysterious invitation, a crowd begins to gather at Little Paddocks at the appointed time when, without warning, the lights go out!
A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In the typical town of Chipping Cleghorn, a murder is announced by the “ Chipping Cleghorn Gazette “.
By 18.30pm, at 29th. October, in Little Paddocks, the murder game will take place and the town residents will attend this little gathering.
Here begins the story of a mystery murder solved by one of the most famous and sweet old ladies, Miss Marple.
I’m a big fan of Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes, and all it’s fictional characters, all it’s surroundings and subsequent plots where murder is king or queen.
If you’re in the mood for a plot where all it’s fictional characters are delicious and murder is the main character, read this book or another one of her collection of works, you won’t be disappointed .

I'm Coming Back to the Things I Love

Another one...
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ms. Leigh brings us in this book the story of Taber and Roni. Taber has protected Roni since she was a child, has felt that pull towards her when she turned into a teenager and finally the time came that as a woman, he marked her as his without knowing it.
On the other hand, Roni has always looked up to Taber as a replacement of a father figure and later on as a man who burned her mind with sinful images, her dream come true would be Taber to see her in the same way as she sees him.
But, with the world knowing about the Breeds and the discovery of mating heat, the stakes are raised high and danger is just around the corner.
Taber and Roni will have to make it through all the craziness and deceivement that will endanger their feelings and their lives.
What I liked about the story...
The book has a beginning, middle and end. I like it when I read a book and the story follows a common thread that I can track and not get lost in the middle of it.
Loved Taber, the non existing doubt when he realizes that Roni is his woman and the courage that takes to lead on to an action without having second thoughts. Of course I'd love Taber because he is hot!
In a certain amount of appreciation I also admire Roni for her courage to try to live aside of her father's life and try to make something worth out of her own life. It is a trait that I think all woman should have in her, that's what makes us one of a kind.
The love scenes...
Are HOT! Ms. Leigh's books aren't for the weak of heart, they are for those that appreciate a passion beyond time, with a lot of touching and possession of the soul. I always get a smile on my face when I finish a book or go through it again, it's a pleasure to always return to a world of never ending love.
And what I also recognize is the power to read and picture the action in front of me without being shocked by it. The love scenes are always anticipated with a story and not thrown in without coherence, they're also not a distraction from the main plot of the story but always a part of it.
What I didn't like ...
This one is not my favorite one but I have to agree that I don't find any faults in it.
And with a little taste of loving I leave you with this knowing that for those who enjoy it, it won't be enough...
“I love your taste.” She moved back from the erotic, mind-destroying movements of his cock pressing
into her sex. “So wild and untamed. Can I tame you, Taber?”

" Up Close and Dangerous " Linda Howard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Because I live in Portugal, there aren't many books on american authors concearning romantic suspense on the market but I looked it up in the library and surprise surprise, there she was.
I read this book in portuguese and found another one too, lucky me.
I'm not going to review it because my friend Shawna touched all the points and made a great review.
My advise is read it, if you're into action, surviving in the wilderness and a love story, just read it and tell us all about it.

Goodreads review - The Dark Prince from Michelle M. Pillow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I read this book for the "Wrath's Challenge", for my J.R. Group and chose it randomly.
Thought about giving myself the chance to into a futuristic world where we traveled to other planets, and there would be a number of infinite places to travel through the universe.
I have to tell you that I'm not a big fan of sci-fi but if we don't give ourselfs the chance, we will never know if we like it or not.
Moving on, the title sugested to me some kind of dragon shifter, a warrior, and so again, moving on, we meet Yusef of Draig, one of the four princes of the planet Qurilixen, where they have the shortest courtship between man and woman.
On the sole night of the year, it is held the Breeding Festival, a ritual to choose a wife among the women that come through the "Galaxy Brides Corporation".
After being chased by the authorities and attacked by bounty hunters, Olena Leyton, one of the best space pirates in history, see's her chance to flea and lay low for a while, embarquing on the spaceship and becoming a bride for men in barbarian planets in need of women. What she doesn't expect is for this barbarian to a very sexy and handsome Dragon shifter, that claims her from the begining and brakes through all of her barriers.
I've read some of the reviews at Goodreads and through out the net and I agree when they say that the story is a very "thin" and simple one.
But what I really have to point out is that the author brought out the best in the main characters and allied their personal characteristics to the intense felings to one another, making the best of this rather limited story.
Olena is a bit tough and sissy one for my taste, but taking on what she went through in the past, I guess we will have to understand it.
About the infatuation and the sex scenes, I think that they were well written, with a begining, middle and end, balancing wisely with the perspective that Yusef acomplishes to bare Olena's soul and makes her accept the gift of giving for "no one had ever treated her like she was delicate, like she was a real woman".
For all that I've stated above, I was not disappointed and had a good time reading this one.
If you go for hot, sexy scenes, this one will keep you coming back for more.

Goodreads review - Evermore by Alyson Noel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ever is a 16 year old girl that looses her family in a car crash and after a near death experience, has the ability to see people's auras, hear their thoughts, and finally know their life story through touch.
She often separates her life in two parts: before the accident, when she was just a normal teenager, and after the accident, being a so called freak.
Things get more and more confusing when she meets Damen, a gorgeous, rich and independent boy, that she becames drawn to from the begining.
Ever realizes that he has many secrets but above all, he is the only one that can silence people's voices and thought's in her head, giving her the sense of peace and normality that she so much misses.
Is Damen light or darkness ?
Who and what is Ever ?
Through the eyes of Ever, this book turns out to be a novelty in the Paranormal genre, touching other ideias that we haven't yet heard so much of such as alchemy, life after death, and other physical dimensions.
So, this first point gets an A in my notebook. I always value the capacity of the imagination and the talent to find new ways to enchant us all with stories that can touch our hearts.
The next fact that drawned me in was the fact of Ever seeing her dead sister and the relationship that is developed throughout the book. The perception and the grief that she will never be a teenager, never grow up, living in between "this world" and "the other", alone, sacrificing her parents companionship for her sister, so that she wouldn't be alone.
In the end, Ever let's go of her sister because in the end we all have our own way to follow.
Alyson Noel was a very talented writer concearning my third point: Ever and Damen's relationship.
We are drawn into Ever's feelings, their almost going forward on a physical level, but at the same time, never giving in, always with the knowledge of the strong and indestructible love that they feel towards each other, a love that has lasted throught the years.
They are two tortured souls, never going forward, loosing themselfs and finding themselfs together over and over again.
And finaly, the breakup and the revelation factor, that enlightens our minds, and from this point on I couldn't put down my book until I found everything.
What she was, what he was, how could this be, how much was it worth it, how much does he love her, can she be without him, will they make it...Wow...
When I finished the book I realized that, sometimes, I'll remember this story, for it's inteligence to teach us that sometimes life can change from one second to another, sometimes it's a good change and sometimes it's not, but we, as humans know that we have to go along with it and make it the best we can.

Goodreads - Reviews
Like I posted back in September, I'm learning slowly how to post in the blog and now that I finally acomplished posting and importing for and from other places, here goes the reviews for "The Raven Prince", "The Warlord wants Forever" and "Mackenzie's Mountain".
The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really, really enjoyed this book. Like I said in my initial comment it's funny, full of enjoyable details and above all a very touching love story.
Anna and Edward are two most touching caracters, strong and funny, very well created in a universe of gossip and prejudice, overcoming all their hurts and passing through all the obstacles that stand in their way to be togeher.
This book is a must read, a real testemony of the 19th. century society and has won a place on my bookshelf.

The plot is interesting and well paced from the begining to the end.

Mackenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Dear Friends,
I have to inform you that this is the first book that I've read of Linda Howard, and I was not disappointed.
My point is that Ms. Howard is a wonderful storyteller, combining her characters with an ingenious plot. Like I said...wonderful.
The story of the book resumes itself by saying that...
When Mary Elizabeth Potter the local teacher, confronts Wolf Mackenzie to get his son back in school, she cames face to face with a bitter and dangerous man. But with this also comes his very good looks and eventhough she is unexperienced and mostly innocent concearning the physical pleasures, she is automatically attracted to him.
Wolf has been convicted of a crime that he did not commit and has to put up with the town's people prejudice, but Mary Elizabeth won't rest until everybody in town is convinced that he is a man worth loving and repect.
So, true to her style, the author gives us a story full of romance and following not far behind, suspense.
Mary Elizabeth is not the usual heroin, she is shy and reserved, not astonishing beautiful, but to me, she has other qualities that are more important: she is strong and faithful to her heart and to her beliefs.
On the other hand, our hero, Wolf, is a man that any single woman would wish for, sensual and strong, good looking, confident and also true to his heart and to his passion for Mary.
This book stands for abolishing prejudice and small-minded people and when we turn the last page it gives us something to think about.
It stands for a true testemony of the power of love and shows us the ways of the small town life in America around the 60's.
So my advice to you is to read it, even if you read it once in your life, just read it.

About Books
Dear all,
In this space of time that I've been away I read the following books:
" The Raven Prince " Elizabeth Hoyt
" Mackenzie's Mountain " Linda Howard
" The Warlord wants Forever " Kresley Cole
Loved this three books for three different reasons which are...
For " The Raven Prince " from Elisabeth Hoyt, I loved the book for it's spirited characters and for showing that love will teach you to overcome all the obstacles. It was the first book that I read of Ms. Hoyt and for shure I'll be coming back for more.
In " Mackenzie's Mountain ",I learned that even the most reserved and simple women can fight against prejudice and small-minded people.
In " The Warlord wants Forever " from Kresley Cole, I met the most wonderful and tortured vampire, a very sexy and bad vampire. Will definitly be reading Immortals after Dark.
If you pass by and have already read one or all this books or haven't read any of them, make a comment on them and share your opinions with me.
Till the next time, have a good weekend.
Patricia
